New year, new life 👶

I’m kickstarting the year together with Rachel from @holisticharmonia & together we’re offering a pregnancy workshop to show you how you can use Alexander Technique and massage to address common🤰 issues from back pain to swollen feet to make pregnancy a more comfortable, empowering and inspiring experience for you and your body.

Taking place this coming weekend Sat 8th Jan, 10.30-12.30 at Wateringbury Village Hall, Kent (where I live 😊) this venue has train links to Tonbridge, Maidstone and London, ample free parking and the cutest cafe & antiques shop opposite. Come relax with us and let’s have a great morning.

This is my first in person workshop in so long, I can’t wait 😊 we will be taking all Covid precautions of course and observing distancing😷 and you are welcome to ask us any questions in advance.

And I will be my own model, cos I’m 8 months pregnant today !!! Excited for all my new beginnings and the things I’m gonna learn this year.

It was world mental health day on Sunday 10th October last month. That day on social media the message was clear, mental health is important. Now more than a month on I wanted to check back in to talk to you about something that’s related. Something that I’ve been working on for nearly a year. MENTAL WEALTH.

To me mental wealth means learning how to invest in yourself, so that your health is the best it can be over the longest time.

☀️ What’s the most important thing you could do today? ☀️

I have very recently started to ask myself this question every morning. I write it down as part of 5 minutes I spend setting my intentions for the day, quite often with a cup of yummy cacao in hand. If you’ve not tried it yet totally recommend you look out for some! It’s amazing for disrupting that coffee habit in a v delicious way☕️ and there are people that say intentions and cacao go hand in hand.

The more I’ve asked this question the more it’s moved from a to do list item to something a bit bigger.

Get outside 🌳

This is one of my busiest months ever work wise. Last month was busy too, and my hope to take some time off wasn’t possible the way things panned out. C’est la vie sometimes. If I hadn’t asked myself this question this morning there’s no way I would have set up work in the garden today. But here I am it’s Monday and I feel chilled and like this ☀️ isn’t passing me by, I’m here for it and here for my contracts admin and getting some time in with my dog. Life is good.

I love this! YES!

I spent over 10 years working in community development with artists before training in Alexander Technique. It was brilliant and hard and above all eye opening. What you see going on in politics and in the horribly biased media is such a fragment of what is actually happening in real life.

The real change always starts from the bottom up.

If you want to see change happening at the moment step away from your screen and go and connect with some locals, you’ll be amazed and inspired by the local changemakers that are out there.

I am 42 years old and this photo was taken last summer.

What do I see?

I see a person whose body is largely working with and for her life, rather than against her. I see a person who can sit on the ground without sciatica, and still remembers how amazing it is to be able to do this without pain. I see a person whose at ease bending down repeatedly to throw the ball for her dog or pick up after her chickens or weed the garden. And I really like that.

Do I like my grey streak of hair ?
Somedays I love it 100%
Somedays I contemplate dyeing it as I think it can make me look older
It doesn’t actually make me feel old I realise, it’s just hair – it’s the aesthetic, the visual when I catch sight of a photo of in a mirror.

We all know images can lie, we’ve all seen outtakes, we all know behind the mirror or the camera are a load of views that didn’t look the same. Some days we look older and some days we look younger, but underneath that is the more important question of how do you feel?

I watched an Insta ad of some face mask today and people were peeling it off to reveal smoother skin and all I kept wondering was how old do you actually feel though?

I think in the age of social it’s easy to think how we look is how we feel and it isn’t necessarily so.

We are all products of the conditions and the peop

We are all products of the conditions and the people around us. Often this means that the ‘real us’ is actually lurking inside not fully released into the world. The only way to find yourself is to go inside, listening to the quiet voice inside of you – making time to be alone, to explore that voice – writing down how you feel, doing activities like meditation and breathwork. This work is deep and powerful and not always easy. The gateway to that work for me was the Alexander Technique, a deep, gentle and kind approach to listening to your body. Who doesn’t need that?
